Size Chart & Sizing Guide

Getting sizes right the first time is the single biggest thing you can do to keep a team order on schedule. Use the charts below to size championship rings, chains and medals, and read the measuring tips before you collect sizes from a whole roster.

US Ring Size Chart

Ring size is determined by the inside circumference of the band. This is the standard US and Canadian scale, which is what we manufacture to. Size Inside diameter Inside circumference 5 15.7 mm 49.3 mm 5.5 16.1 mm 50.6 mm 6 16.5 mm 51.9 mm 6.5 16.9 mm 53.1 mm 7 17.3 mm 54.4 mm 7.5 17.7 mm 55.7 mm 8 18.1 mm 57.0 mm 8.5 18.5 mm 58.3 mm 9 18.9 mm 59.5 mm 9.5 19.4 mm 60.8 mm 10 19.8 mm 62.1 mm 10.5 20.2 mm 63.4 mm 11 20.6 mm 64.6 mm 11.5 21.0 mm 65.9 mm 12 21.4 mm 67.2 mm 12.5 21.8 mm 68.5 mm 13 22.2 mm 69.7 mm 13.5 22.6 mm 71.0 mm 14 23.0 mm 72.3 mm 14.5 23.4 mm 73.6 mm 15 23.8 mm 74.8 mm Most adult men order between size 9 and size 12. Most adult women order between size 6 and size 8. Championship rings sit at the larger end of a person's range because the top is heavy and wide.

How to Measure at Home

You do not need a jeweller to get an accurate size. Two reliable methods:

Measure a Ring That Already Fits

This is the most accurate method. Take a ring the person already wears on the same finger, lay it flat, and measure the inside diameter across the middle in millimetres. Match that figure to the Inside diameter column above. If the ring falls between two sizes, take the larger one.

Measure the Finger

Wrap a strip of paper or a piece of string snugly around the base of the finger, mark where it overlaps, then lay it flat and measure the length in millimetres. That figure is the inside circumference — match it to the third column above. Do not pull it tight. It should be snug enough to stay put but loose enough to slide over the knuckle.

Get the Timing Right

Fingers change through the day and through the year. Measure in the afternoon or evening, at normal room temperature, and never straight after training or a game. Fingers are smallest when cold and after exercise, and largest in heat. If the knuckle is noticeably larger than the base of the finger, size to slide over the knuckle and expect a slightly looser fit at the base.

Sizing a Whole Team

Collecting sizes from a roster is where most delays start. A few things that keep an order moving: • Use a ring sizer. We can send a plastic sizer set to your coach or athletic director — ask when you request your quote. It removes almost all guesswork and is far quicker than measuring 30 players individually. • Collect sizes in writing, not verbally. A shared spreadsheet with player name, number and ring size is ideal, and it is the format we can drop straight into production. • Size the finger the ring will actually be worn on. Championship rings are usually worn on the ring finger of the non-dominant hand, but plenty of players wear them elsewhere. Ask. • Build in a buffer for growth. For youth and middle-school teams ordering months ahead of a banquet, see the note below. • Do not average. One size for the whole team guarantees pieces that do not fit. Once sizes are approved and production begins, resizing a finished championship ring is often not possible because of the stone settings and the width of the shank. It is far cheaper to spend an extra week getting sizes right than to remake pieces.

Youth and Junior Sizing

Youth rings are sized on the same US scale, simply at the smaller end. Most youth and middle-school players fall between size 5 and size 9. Two things to bear in mind for young athletes: Growth. If there will be several months between sizing and the banquet, and the player is in a growth spurt, consider going up a half size. A ring that is slightly loose can be worn with a sizing insert; one that no longer fits cannot be worn at all. Weight and comfort. A full-size championship ring top can be heavy on a small hand. For younger age groups we can supply the same design on a proportionally scaled top, which looks right and wears comfortably. Ask about this when you request your quote.

Championship Chain Lengths

Chain length is measured as the full loop, and the right choice depends mostly on where you want the medallion to sit. Length Where the pendant sits 18" At the collarbone 20" Just below the collarbone 22" Upper chest — the most popular team choice 24" Mid chest 26" Lower chest, over a jersey 30" Sternum — the full presentation look worn over kit For a championship medallion worn over a jersey for photographs and presentations, 26 inches to 30 inches gives the look most teams are after. For a chain that will be worn day to day, 22 inches is the safer choice. To check a length you already own, fasten the chain, lay it flat in a single loop, measure end to end and double it.

Medal Sizes

Medal size is the diameter of the face. We produce from 1¼ inches up to 5 inches. Size Typical use 1¼" – 1½" Participation and large-volume school events 1¾" – 2" The standard tournament and league medal 2½" Placement medals, more presence without a big jump in cost 3" Championship and invitational finals 3½" – 4" Marquee events and championship finals 5" Showcase and presentation pieces Size is the main driver of medal cost, ahead of finish and ribbon. If you are working to a fixed budget per athlete, choose the size first and then the finish. Our medals cost estimator will show you the effect of each size on your total. Ribbon length is usually about 32 inches, which lets the medal sit at mid chest on an adult. We can supply shorter ribbons for younger age groups on request.

Still Not Sure?

Call us on (803) 760-7099 or email hello@coluccicustomawards.com. We size team orders every week and we would far rather spend ten minutes on the phone before production than remake pieces afterwards. We can also send a physical ring sizer to your coach or athletic director before you place the order.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the most common championship ring size?

For adult men, size 10 to 11 is the most frequently ordered; for adult women, size 6 to 7. Youth and middle-school players usually fall between size 5 and size 9. Championship rings tend to run at the larger end of someone's normal range because the top is wide and heavy.

Can a championship ring be resized after it is made?

Usually not. The stone settings and the width of the shank on a championship ring make resizing difficult and often impossible without damaging the piece. This is why we recommend a physical ring sizer and written sizes before production begins.

Can you send us a ring sizer for the team?

Yes. Ask when you request your quote and we will send a plastic sizer set to your coach or athletic director. For a full roster it is much faster and far more accurate than measuring players individually.

How do I size a youth player who is still growing?

If several months will pass between sizing and the banquet, go up a half size. A slightly loose ring can be worn with a sizing insert, whereas one that has been outgrown cannot be worn at all.

What chain length should we order for championship medallions?

For a medallion worn over a jersey in presentations and team photographs, 26 to 30 inches gives the look most teams want. For a chain that will be worn day to day, 22 inches is the safer choice.

What size medal should we order?

1¾ to 2 inches is the standard tournament and league medal. Step up to 3 inches for championship finals, and 3½ to 4 inches for marquee events. Size affects price more than finish does, so pick the size first if you are working to a per-athlete budget.
