Each tag uses regulation 304-grade stainless steel with a non-reflective matte finish, matching the exact specifications issued to service members in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, and Space Force. The text is embossed using the authentic stamping method that physically raises characters into the metal for maximum durability.
Every set includes two tags, a long 24-inch and short 4-inch ball chain, and optional rubber silencers. You can specify the branch format, choose shiny or matte finish, and enter up to five lines of custom text. These are not novelty replicas. They are regulation-grade military identification tags made with the same process and materials used for official issue.
Official 5-Line DoD Formatting vs. Vintage Dog Tag Layouts
The modern U.S. military dog tag follows a standard five-line Department of Defense format: Line 1, Last Name. Line 2, First Name and Middle Initial. Line 3, DoD ID Number (which replaced the Social Security Number in 2015). Line 4, Blood Type. Line 5, Religious Preference. This format applies uniformly across all current branches of service.
Historical formats are significantly different. WWII-era tags included next of kin, home address, and tetanus immunization dates. Vietnam-era tags used the service number before the switch to SSN. Korean War tags had their own distinct layout. When you place your order, specify the era and branch, and our system guides you through the correct line sequence.
